Chapter 1

Christine wakes up in an unfamiliar bedroom, the air thick with silence. A man lies beside her, middle-aged, gentle-looking. Panic grips her chest. Who is he? Why is she here? The man stirs and sees her wide eyes. He smiles reassuringly. "Christine, it’s me—Ben. Your husband. You’re safe." Confusion clouds her mind. Christine rushes to the mirror, only to be met with a horrifying reflection. She is older than she remembers—twenty years older. Her face is lined, her hair streaked with gray. How? Ben explains: A tragic car accident twenty years ago stole her ability to retain memories. Each day, her mind resets, erasing everything. He tells her the same story every morning. She is 47. She is safe. But why does it feel like a lie?
