Determined to uncover the truth, Christine reads through her journal, written over weeks, months—maybe even years. Bits and pieces of her life emerge: fragments of conversations, lingering emotions of fear, a name she doesn’t recognize—Claire. Ben never mentioned a Claire. Dr. Nash arranges to meet her secretly. He hands her a photograph. "This is Claire. Your best friend." Christine’s heart pounds. Claire looks familiar, but something is off. "Where is she now?" Nash hesitates. "She’s been missing for years. And you were the last person to see her."
