Chapter 5

Fang Mu’s visions intensify. He sees glimpses of a faceless figure, always watching. He hears whispers, words that coil around his thoughts like a noose. "You were never the hunter. You were always the prey." Then, the final piece of the puzzle falls into place. The chatroom, the victims, the messages—they all lead back to one person. Himself. Fang Mu stares at the evidence before him, his hands trembling. Did he know the killer all along? Did the killer manipulate him into solving his own crimes? Or is he, somehow, the key to everything? Before he can act, the final murder takes place. The victim: Luo Wen. His body is found in Fang Mu’s apartment, his blood drained, a single note pinned to his chest. "Now you see." Fang Mu is arrested. The city believes the nightmare is over. But as he sits in his cell, staring at his reflection, he sees something move in the mirror. A shadow, a whisper. A voice, laughing softly in the dark. And somewhere beyond the prison walls, another woman receives a message on her phone. "He is watching. He is hungry." The killings have only just begun.
